Friday, 2 September (continued). It was almost 19:00 by the time we finally got to our hotel, the Hadrigan, some distance from the center of town. It was modern and clean, really quite pleasant. We dressed and went to dinner with the group at the Griechenbeisl (Greek Inn), located in a Greek section in central Vienna. "Ach, Du Lieber Augustine" was written there. It was small and old, but it was strictly for tourists and didn't have much atmosphere.

Vienna's Moulin Rouge

From there we went on an optional visit to the Moulin Rouge night club on Walfischgasse. I didn't want to go because I thought we were getting clipped at $10 apiece. (To put this in perspective, remember that the whole tour cost $47.) But Jane finally talked me into it. It did turn out to be a clip joint. There was a circular dance floor on the main level that served as a stage. They put us upstairs and tried to put six in a booth where only the two on the end could even see the stage. After protesting, the two of us finally were put in another booth with two total strangers.

The floor show was mostly strippers with a couple of other acts in between. We saw about four different girls, but it was all strip and no tease. Some of them stripped completely, then sat on customers' laps. This was way too much for us. We were also too tired to enjoy ourselves. A glass of champagne was included in the Moulin Rouge tour, and we ate a tiny bag of almonds that was on the table, thinking that was included. It turned out to be another gimmick to milk a few more schillings (250) from us tourists. We all rode taxis back to the hotel.
