Saturday, 1 April. After a nice breakfast at the hotel, our group was taken on a bus tour of Madrid. Our first stop was the Palazzo Real (Royal Palace). The interior was exquisite.
Next we visited the Prado Museum. We had never seen so many El Grecos, with the distinctively elongated figures. There were also many works by Velázquez, Murillo, Goya, and Rubens. Velázquez's Las Meninas (1656) was especially captivating. The bus took us back to the hotel for lunch about 12:30.
