Saturday, 2 October. We had signed up for the optional tour to Giverny to see Claude Monet's home and gardens. The bus left at 7:45 headed for Normandie. We passed right by Saint-Germain-en-Laye, where we had spent out first night in France, back in 1961. We got to Giverny at 9:00, perhaps a bit too early because the morning mist hung heavily over Monet's lily pond. But it was uncrowded at that time - except at the famous Japanese bridge. Everyone wanted to be photographed on the bridge. By the time we got to the main gardens, the mist had burned off. We toured the house and found it just as "paintable" as the gardens. In fact, there was a copy of Monet's painting of his studio in his studio. The house was surprisingly large. Monet had added on to it after he bought it. | |||
